The mid-season reflection episode of Married at First Sight season 17, called “Married at First Sight The Journey So Far,” dished on this season’s drama, and the discussion panel took a dig at the experts. Married at First Sight viewers met this discussion panel before the season aired when the “Kickoff Special” episode dropped, and the panel members shared their thoughts on the upcoming season. The Journey So Far Panel Weighed In On The Couples
The panel lamented about how there were only three couples left in Married at First Sight season 17. They remarked that Orion gave up on his marriage to Lauren seemingly to prove his points and condemn Lauren. The panel did not want Lauren to consider getting back with Orion as the mid-season trailer depicted. Most of the panel thought Clare and Cameron were a good match, but Clare’s overbearing and judgemental personality was brought up as the reason the couple is having such a hard time connecting.
“The Journey So Far” cast thought Brennan wanted to be controlling over Emily and that he was the most disrespectful cast member towards the experts that had ever been on the show. Michael being abandoned at the altar was talked about, with everyone agreeing on how much of a good guy Michael was and how unfortunate the circumstances were. Becca and Austin’s marriage seemed to be the one the discussion panel was rooting for the most because of the obvious chemistry the couple has displayed.

Since Married at First Sight season 17 is not coming through with successful pairings, the discussion panel had some thoughts on why that was. They brought up the maturity level of some of the participants and remarked that they were not ready to be part of the experiment and be a good partner to someone. They brought up Orion’s attitude and approach to the downfall of his marriage to Lauren and how the experts should have spotted the red flags in Orion’s personality in the first place.
While the Married at First Sight discussion panel didn’t directly blame the experts for Michael’s runaway bride fiasco, the situation definitely speaks to the fact that the experts missed something. The panel did praise the matchmaking efforts and highlighted the deeply compatible traits among the remaining couples, but it was obvious the panel was shocked that there were only three couples left this season. It’s true that the burden of matching successful couples is on the experts, and the things that went awry this season are at least in part the responsibility of the experts.
