Married At First Sight: Virginia Coombs’ Sexuality Explained

Married at First Sight season 12 cast member Virginia Coombs’ sexuality has become a hot topic after the reality star took to social media and officially came out. Her short-lived marriage to MAFS co-star Erik Lake was fraught with tension and tears. Virginia’s free-spirited, cavalier friendships with men made Erik uncomfortable, and made Virginia look immature when compared to Erik’s older, more traditional outlook.

Married at First Sight' Season 12: Virginia Coombs Reveals Her New Sexual Orientation as She Departs Her 'Straight' and 'Christian' Lifestyle

Following Married at First Sight’s Virginia Coombs and Erik’s divorce, Virginia began to explore different sides of her sexuality. She started to trend more politically left than what she portrayed herself as on Married At First Sight. Virginia’s drinking became a concern for her marriage during her season of the show, but she maintained that lifestyle, posting her club experiences on social media. While playing into some of the stereotypes she fell into on MAFS, Virginia’s self-exploration resulted in a dramatic shift in how she chose to be perceived.

How Married At First Sight’s Virginia Coombs Transformed

In a recent Instagram post, Virginia came out as pansexual, detailing her subtle shift to a more liberal mindset since her appearance on Married At First Sight. From age 24 to 29, Virginia went from a self-described straight conservative to a liberal pansexual. Having considered herself bi-curious after her divorce, Virginia fully adopted the label of pansexual, meaning she has the ability to be attracted to any gender.

In a comment on her own Instagram post, Virginia explained, “For me, gender has never been a qualifying factor in my attraction to someone.” The MAFS alum also claimed that pansexuality is “essentially a category of bisexual,” and “should be the ultimate label for Christians.” Virginia’s extreme shift in beliefs changed the way she views everything, in turn changing the way everyone views her online. With some hesitation in sharing her transformation, Virginia’s empowerment to reveal her true nature and live authentically shows maturity since her time on Married At First Sight.

Though Virginia claimed that MAFS fans can be brutal, she still made the decision to come out publicly and share her newly formed social ideals. Worshiping the church of love and karma, Virginia provided a fresh perspective and brought some much-needed diversity into the Married at First Sight universe. She certainly took life by the horns and used her 20s to do a lot of self-reflection, and created the life she wanted rather than take what was chosen for her, even if it was chosen by experts. It remains to be seen where the next decade will take Virginia.
