Married At First Sight Season 17: The Worst Things Becca Has Said About Austin (What’s Their Relationship Status?)

During the course of the Married at First Sight season 17 experiment, Becca Haley said some awful things about her husband, Austin Reed. Becca and Austin were one of five couples to marry a stranger at the altar. They were also only one of three couples that made it to Decision Day. In a Married at First Sight first, Michael Shiakkalis got ditched by his original bride at the altar, and was paired with a new bride to fulfill the experiment, and they have yet to reach Decision Day since they started when the other couples were already halfway through.

Orion Martloff asked Lauren Goodger for a divorce upon returning from their honeymoon. Clare Kerr and Cameron Frazer separated on their one-month anniversary, and Brennan Shoykhet and Emily Balch split just days before Decision Day. Clare and Cameron and Brennan and Emily still showed up to Decision Day, if only to say no to each other and say their piece. Austin and Becca did say yes to each other on Decision Day, only for Becca to break things off the next day.

Becca & Austin’s Journey

Becca and Austin started Married at First Sight season 17 on a very high note. They had instant chemistry at the altar that only built more during their honeymoon. Austin also accepted Becca’s health conditions. She described that boyfriends past thought of her as a burden, but Austin assured her he would be different.

Austin and Becca also shared a mutual attraction for each other and did a lot of displays of affection. Where they ran into issues was with Austin’s religious views not aligning with Becca’s, and Becca’s need for sex with Austin. Later, more issues arose over Austin feeling like Becca was making him look bad on camera.

Becca Called Austin Dismissive & Combative

Things got so bad between Austin and Becca that experts Dr. Pepper and Pastor Cal had to step in and ground them. It was during this session that Becca hurled the insults that Austin was “dismissive” and “combative” (via Lifetime.) She called him out for giving her pushback on physical intimacy and in instances where they had differing opinions. Becca’s insults struck a nerve with Austin, who later vocalized that he felt Becca wouldn’t let him have his own opinions.

Austin felt like Becca wanted to silence him, and it pushed him even further away from her.

Saying that Austin was dismissive and combative were two of the worst things Becca could have said about him because her descriptions made him look bad and made him afraid to express how he was really feeling.

Becca wanted to control Austin’s narrative instead of letting him speak for himself.

Becca Insinuated Austin’s Slower Intimacy Pace Was A Bad Thing

All season long, Becca was relentless about letting it be known that she wanted to have sex with Austin. Whenever she had the chance while they were alone or in group settings, it seemed like Becca wanted to bring up Austin’s slower intimacy pace and make it a bad thing (via E! News.) Becca developed a complex about Austin’s unwillingness to go all the way with her and constantly shined a negative light on Austin’s reservations until the situation of them not having sex became larger than life and helped contribute to their marriage’s downfall.

Becca didn’t respect Austin’s boundaries, and her crusade to make Austin feel bad about not progressing with her sexually spoke volumes about her character. Becca likely embarrassed Austin with her negativity around his slower intimacy pace.

Becca ostracizing Austin for not wanting to take things further sexually with her is a huge red flag about her personality and her ability to be a good partner to Austin.

Becca Said Austin Cared More About His Image Than Her

The other big factor that contributed to the tumultuousness of Becca and Austin’s Married at First Sight marriage was Becca’s endeavor to make Austin look bad in front of the cameras. Austin was vocal about not liking how Becca was trying to portray him on camera. He thought Becca wasn’t describing what they were going through accurately and that because of her responses, he looked like the bad guy. Becca’s reaction to Austin voicing his concerns about how she was depicting him was to tell Austin that he cared more about the optics than her.

Becca tried to make Austin look even worse than she already had by inflating Austin’s concerns that she was making him look bad. She didn’t try to resolve the situation or make Austin feel better by agreeing to let up on putting him down. And Becca’s point that Austin cared more about his image than her wasn’t even true. Austin often relayed how much he loved and cared about Becca and wanted their relationship to succeed. Becca took a lot from the foundation of their marriage by spearing Austin’s name and made herself look bad.

Did Becca & Austin Repair Their Relationship?

Becca and Austin did say yes to each other on Decision Day in an effort to see what their lives could be like off-camera. They wanted to give their marriage another chance. Unfortunately, Becca found out Austin went out with their producer the night of Decision Day. When Becca met up with the Married at First Sight season 17 group the next day, she confronted Austin about his hang out and he lied. Becca became furious and said she didn’t think Austin was the right person for her, effectively ending their marriage.

While she did have second thoughts about her delivery and choice to end things, she and Austin remained at a distance. It doesn’t seem like Becca and Austin repaired their Married at First Sight relationship since the show ended. Austin is not on social media, and Becca has a private Instagram account. There are no clues pointing to the idea that they repaired anything. The Reunion episode has yet to air, so fans will hear more about how things went after filming. However, since so much damage was done between them, it’s unlikely they’re even on good terms.
