‘NCIS: Sydney’ Will Return to the Gold Coast for Season 2

Going international has definitely paid off. CBS announced today that brand-new investigative spin-off NCIS: Sydney has been renewed for a Season 2. The announcement comes on the heels of the massively positive reception that the new series received on its eight-episode debut season back in late 2023. The network decided to order new episodes for the 2024-2025 season. The episode count is yet to be revealed.

According to CBS, NCIS: Sydney quickly became a hit across multiple territories and Paramount Global platforms, including Australia, the U.S. and Canada. In the U.S. alone, the premiere episode raked in over 10 million viewers, a pretty good number for a new show. CBS considers it the #1 show of the fall, and currently it has only ben outperformed by two other freshmen shows: Tracker and The Good Wifespin-off Elsbeth. NCIS: Sydney kept a consistent audience throughout all its Season 1 episodes, with an average of 8 million multiplatform viewers per episode.

In an official statement, executive producer and showrunner for Endemol Shine Australia Morgan O’Neill shared his excitement about the renewal and teased what fans can expect to see down the line:

“We’re beyond stoked with the response to the first season of the show, both in Australia and around the world, and that the team at ‘NCIS: Sydney’ is returning for a second season. We’re especially thrilled to invite our audience deeper into the lives of our core team, peeling back the layers to find out what really makes them tick. This will be even more important as we see the bonds of the new family tested to breaking point in the face of a much more potent enemy looming on the horizon …”

President of CBS Entertainment Amy Reisenbach was also stoked with the announcement and celebrated the fact that Americans “fully embraced” the stories taking place in the land Down Under. Like other NCIS installments and other investigative shows, NCIS: Sydney follows an eclectic team of investigators who band together to solve crimes. For this team specifically, investigations are focused on naval crimes in the most contested patch of ocean on the planet.

Since CBS renewed NCIS: Sydney for the 2024-2025 season, it’s possible that the Australian series rolls out more episodes for its second run. Since these shows tend to cultivate a loyal fanbase, it wouldn’t be a surprise if it became bigger and bigger to the point of starting crossover events with its sister series.
