NCIS: Hawai’i Season 4 – Will It Happen? Everything We Know

The popular spinoff series NCIS: Hawai’i is already becoming a TV institution like its predecessor, but will it be renewed for season 4? The Hawai’i spinoff is based on the ongoing series NCIS which itself started as a spinoff of Jag in 2003. The franchise follows the agents of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service as they tackle cases that happen within the ranks of the United States military. NCIS: Hawai’i follows Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant as she leads her team in Hawai’i’s Pearl Harbor region while smashing barriers as the first woman to hold the position.

Coming as the first NCIS universe show to take place outside the continental United States, NCIS: Hawai’i shook up the franchise formula from episode one while still delivering familiar procedural action. Like many of its spinoff contemporaries, Hawai’i has already become an ongoing success story and is yet another NCIS offshoot to earn multiple seasons. Only time will tell if it lasts as long as other spinoffs like NCIS: Los Angeles, but Hawai’i is already off to a good start with the possibility of season 4 quite high.

NCIS: Hawai’i Season 4 Is Not Confirmed

No News Yet On Season 4’s Status

Since season 3 is still airing, it is no surprise that NCIS: Hawai’i season 4 has not been green-lit yet. The popular procedural has not missed a beat since debuting in 2021, and there is little chance that CBS won’t opt to renew a hit series in its rapidly expanding NCIS franchise. Fans can expect to see NCIS: Hawai’i season 4 get a renewal order as early as mid-season, or closer to season 3’s finale. The Hollywood strikes of 2023 knocked the NCIS franchise off its schedule, and CBS will likely want to avoid such delays in the future.

NCIS: Hawai’i Season 4 Cast

Who Will Return?

Like most procedurals, the cast of NCIS: Hawai’i hasn’t changed much from season to season, and except for new additions, there has been very little turnover. However, since season 3 isn’t over yet, it isn’t entirely impossible for a character to die or be replaced, but those things happen infrequently during seasons without a lot of fanfare and build. With that in mind, the entire ensemble cast of NCIS: Hawai’i is expected to return for season 4, with Vanessa Lachey leading the team as Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant.

The only current cast member who is somewhat uncertain is LL Cool J’s Sam Hanna, who made the jump from NCIS: Los Angeles in season 2 as a guest star before being promoted to recurring in season 3. Hanna could be promoted to a series regular for season 4, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

A complete list of expected returns can be found in the chart below:

NCIS: Hawai’i Season 4 Story

What Will Happen?

No details have been revealed about NCIS: Hawai’i season 4’s story, but it isn’t that difficult to speculate about what will happen next. Procedurals like NCIS and its spinoffs tend to have in-season storylines that are resolved by the finale of each respective season, only for new ones to pop up in the next season. Since season 3 hasn’t concluded yet, there is no telling what will happen to the team in season 4. What is guaranteed, though, is a case-of-the-week format that has served shows like NCIS: Hawai’i well.
