During the latest episode of Married at First Sight season 17, Emily Balch got into a severe-looking ATV accident while on an adventure date with her husband, Brennan Shoykhet. Emily and Brennan were the first couple to get married this season, and they have had a difficult time since returning from their honeymoon. On the honeymoon, Brennan and Emily bonded on their mutual professional ambition, personal values, and hopes for the future. They seemed attracted to each other, with Brennan calling Emily his “dream girl” early on.
However, upon returning from Mexico, Brennan said he was not attracted to Emily and felt “drained” after spending 24/7 with her on the honeymoon. Ever since then, Emily has been trying to get Brennan to feel the spark again, but Brennan has not been able to. In recent episodes, they have been building their friendship, but Emily has been growing frustrated with what she sees as Brennan’s lack of effort to make her feel comfortable and wanted in their marriage. Brennan has been resistant to therapy, being open and vulnerable on camera, and trying any sort of intimacy with Emily.
Emily Booked An ATV Ride For Her & Brennan
In an effort to expand on the fun she and Brennan have together and to keep their interactions on the lighter side, Emily booked an ATV excursion date for her and Brennan during the couples retreat they joined. At dinner the night before the ATV ride, Emily shared how excited she was to do the activity with Brennan. The other couples agreed it would be a good way for Emily and Brennan to bond amidst the marriage turmoil they’ve been having.
The following morning, Emily gave a self-taken interview where she described, “Brennan and I are ATVing. We do like to more fun, more thrilling stuff, so I thought this would be a fun thing to do. I’m only for positive vibes this weekend. Maybe some living on the edge vibes.” Upon arrival to the ATV excursion, in a private interview, Brennan remarked that he and Emily were “working on the friendship part of our relationship, and we haven’t gotten to do a fun adventure in a while.”
Emily Crashed The ATV & Needed An Ambulance
The Married at First Sight cameras showed Emily exclaiming how excited she was about ATVing before she and Brennan took off with their guide. After a while on the trail with Brennan in front of Emily. Emily’s ATV camera showed her going off the trail and crashing. As the crew, Brennan, and the guide ran over, someone could be heard saying, “We got lots of blood; she cut her head open.” Then, Emily could be heard asking Brennan, “Am I gonna be okay?” Brennan replied, “You’re gonna be alright.”
911 was called, and Brennan stroked Emily’s hand as he held a towel on her bleeding head wound. Brennan only left Emily’s side when the paramedics came in to look at her as she lay on the ATV. The paramedics asked her if she knew where she was while they bandaged her head before taking her away in the ambulance. Brennan looked on at the scene while saying, “This is f***ing bad.”
Brennan Will Show Up For Emily In The Hospital
A preview clip for the next episode of Married at First Sight season 17 showed Emily lying in a hospital bed resting while her head was wrapped and her hair was caked in blood. Brennan was in a chair next to her as he held her hand. In an interview, Brennan remarked, “I’m just praying, hoping everything is okay. But I’m here, sickness and in health.” It looks like Brennan will step up to be there for Emily after the accident, but it’s unclear if the situation will bring them closer together in their marriage. Brennan and Emily’s marriage (via Lifetime) needs to improve quite a bit for either one of them to say yes on Decision Day.
