Mark your calendars, Law and Order: SVU fans. Mariska Hargitay just dropped epic news about the status of season 25, and you’re going to want to pay attention to what she has to say.
On November 20, fans of the hit drama got a massive shock when news broke that all shows in the Law and Order franchise would return for new episodes on January 18, 2024 as part of the midseason rollout for NBC. As Mariska shared an official clip from the network on her Instagram, she revealed that the show will take over Thursdays as it airs on the same night as the other Dick Wolf-created TV series — Law and Order and Law and Order: Organized Crime.
“January 18. The wait is over,” fans could read throughout the cryptic 30-second clip featuring Mariska, Sam Waterston, Christopher Meloni and Ice-T.

When fans discovered the shocking update Mariska announced about Law and Order: SVU season 25, it wasn’t long before people voiced their excitement in the comments. “MOTHER IS COMING HOME,” one person exclaimed on Instagram. “Yaass, Queen Mother, Capt. Olivia Benson is back! Let’s go record-breaking Season 2️⃣5️⃣,” another wrote, referencing the iconic amount of time SVU has been on the air. “SO excited! 😍❤️ I can’t wait to see Captain Benson on my screen again!” a different follower rejoiced.
While it’s unclear when filming officially begins, at least we know when the new season will be brought to life. Deadline detailed that viewers can expect to tune in at 9 P.M. ET on the 18, as it will follow Law and Order and precede Law and Order: Organized Crime.
