Grey’s Anatomy Fans Rally Behind “McSteamy” After Eric Dane’s Euphoria Character Gets Shout-Out

Viewers of Grey’s Anatomy are rallying behind Eric Dane after the actor’s character in Euphoria received a shout-out. Dane has played multiple memorable roles on television, including Nate Jacobs’ dad Cal in Euphoria. However, one of his earliest memorable roles on TV was a Mark Sloan, affectionately referred to as “McSteamy,” in Grey’s Anatomy.

Now, fans of Grey’s Anatomy have begun posting about Dane as Mark. Posts take issue with how Dane is primarily known for his role on Euphoria now and not his role in the medical drama. Check out some of the social media reactions below.

Jordo expresses shock that Dane isn’t known for his role in Grey’s Anatomy anymore. This goes to show just how classic his time as Mark is considered for the show.

bobz jokes about feeling old now that people know Dane for his Euphoria role more than his Grey’s Anatomy one. This reflects the generational gap between viewers of both series.

Miguel Fernandes shows off their Grey’s Anatomy knowledge, acknowledging the relationship between Mark and Lexie Grey. Their relationship was a key factor in both of their character arcs.

blockmiaout asks others to “have some respect” for Dane’s previous role in Grey’s Anatomy. This further reflects just how much of an impact Dane had as Mark on the show.

Why Eric Dane Is Best Remembered For His Grey’s Anatomy Role

Dane’s role as Mark Sloan began in Grey’s Anatomy season 2 as a plastic surgeon, who was known as “McSteamy” behind his back. Over the course of the series, Mark began a relationship with Lexi Grey, the half-sister of series protagonist Meredith Grey. While their relationship was occasionally rocky, the pair ended up becoming a key couple within Grey’s Anatomy.

However, Mark was killed off in Grey’s Anatomy season 9 alongside Lexi in a plane crash, after which Seattle Grace was renamed Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital after the pair. Mark’s legacy in Grey’s Anatomy has outlived him, making Dane’s role as the character one of his most memorable on television. This also explains why so many viewers of the show responded to his Euphoria role being touted over his Grey’s Anatomy one.

Mark’s sendoff had a big impact on Grey’s Anatomy, which is why Dane’s portrayal of him is so well-remembered. But, as acknowledgment for his Euphoria role grows, a new generation may see him in a different light. Even so, some will always remember him as McSteamy on Grey’s Anatomy, no matter what other roles Dane takes in the future.
