On February 8, Law & Order: Organized Crime star Chris Meloni took a special group selfie. And you can spot his on-screen mother, Ellen Burstyn (Bernadette Stabler), in the photo.
The post comes as a lighthearted surprise, as Burstyn recently appeared in a very tense Season 4 episode of OC in which Stabler had an awkward family reunion with Bernadette and his two brothers, Randall (Dean Norris) and Joe Jr. (Michael Trotter).

In the reel, we also get to see him pose with Norris, Ainsley Seiger (Jet Slootmaekers), Kelli Giddish (Amanda Rollins), Stephanie March (Alex Cabot), and of course, Mariska Hargitay (Olivia Benson).

In March 2023, Meloni took another sweet, on-set selfie with mama Stabler. In the picture, Meloni looked dashing in a sleek suit, while Burstyn gave a big grin in a red velvet outfit. See the picture here.

“The best mother-son duo 😍.” @dickwolfentertainment chimed in.
Then, in October, Hargitay herself got together with Burstyn, and X user @pattigandolfini recapped the interaction.
“OMG, yesterday my husband and stepson went gaga when they saw their favorite actress Mariska Hargitay at a NYC farmer’s market. But they missed the person with her: Ellen Burstyn. So sorry, Ms Burstyn. They should have been just as gaga over you. I was when I saw the pix.”
The user then shared two pictures of Hargitay and Burstyn pushing a cart along at the Farmer’s market. Check out the snapshots here.
In an October 2023 discussion with Interview, Meloni and Burstyn both opened up about their on-screen and off-screen relationship.
“Since I’ve lost my mother a couple of years ago, you — in my life, in our work — you’re my mother,” Meloni said to Burstyn.
“It’s very easy. It’s like slipping into a pair of old shoes. I slipped into being your mother,” she replied.
“Well, I’m glad you say that because I feel the same way,” Meloni said.
Burstyn then talked about her career on Law & Order: OC. “I want you to know that I’m more famous for [Organized Crime] than for anything I’ve done in my 70 years in the business. I get people stopping me in the street and saying, “Are you going to be on the show again soon?”
Meloni was is on the same page. “I get the same thing. They don’t care about me. They want to make sure that Bernie’s going to be on the show,” he said.
