90 Day Fiancé star Kalani Faagata has left fans feeling confused about her baby daughter’s name – is it Masina or Magina – and what does it even mean? Kalani from Orange County, California fell in love with Asuelu Pulaa from a little village in Falealili, Upolu while she was vacationing in Samoa. Kalani had been raised in the Mormon church and Asuelu was her first love. She decided she was going to lose her virginity to Asuelu, and the couple welcomed their first son, Oliver Asuelu, who came to the U.S. on a K-1 visa.
Kalani and Asuelu became parents to their second son, Kennedy, a few months after their wedding. Kalani had not told the cameras that Asuelu was a cheater, but she stayed with him for the sake of their family. Asuelu gave Kalani a “hall pass” to go and kiss someone else in 2022 after she caught him cheating again while he was in Samoa. Kalani had met Dallas Nuez on social media and did more than just kiss him as she had now fallen in love. She decided to divorce Asuelu and started dating Dallas in November 2022.
Kalani Kept Her Pregnancy A Secret
Kalani found out she was pregnant while she was in New York filming the 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Tell All where she featured as a guest. She even told Dallas that she was going to have his baby when they were in their New York hotel. She recently revealed how difficult it was for her to film the reunion episode while being newly pregnant. She was feeling “super” nauseous and trying her best to hide it. Kalani also had to attend a party post-filming and shared a picture she’d clicked with Daniele Gates and Tania Maduro.
Kalani Welcomed Her Baby Girl With Dallas In June 2024
Kalani didn’t talk about her pregnancy during the Tell All. In fact, she didn’t talk about it at all for the next nine months. Kalani said she wanted to keep her baby away from stress by keeping her pregnancy a secret. She only chose to tell her fans and cast members about it after she’d already given birth. Kalani revealed the news with a surprise announcement on June 4, 2024, via a collaboration post with Dallas. She posted several photos of the baby swaddled in a purple blanket and captioned it, “Meet our daughter.”
What Does Masina Really Mean?
Kalani revealed the name of her and Dallas’ baby a month later, on July 9, 2024. The picture showed the little princess with a large pink bow on her head and sleeping under a pink blanket. Kalani added a moon and a bee emoji on one of the baby’s pictures before sharing a photo with a sign reading, “Masina Bee” on the final slide. Kalani didn’t explain the meaning behind the unique name in the post. A few of Kalani’s followers misread it as “Magina” because of the way the letter “s” was drawn on the board in cursive font.
Kalani later told a fan in her comments that her daughter’s name is pronounced as, “Mah-see-nah.” The 90 Day Fiancé star took to her Instagram Stories to share details about where she drew inspiration for the beautiful name. She revealed that Masina is a girl’s name of Samoan origin and that it means “moon.” It’s also a variant of Salamasina, the name of a Samoan queen. Masina’s middle name has a connection to Kalani’s sister Kolini Faagata and her mom, Lisa. Bee is Kolini’s nickname, and it’s also Kalani’s mother’s “favorite creature.”
